To My Sister as You Embark on Your New Adventure

Dear sister,

As you make your way from Orange County to Dallas, I know your tummy must be swirling with both excitement and fear.  And although the fear can sometimes become overpowering, know that I’m proud of you.

I’m proud of you for taking a risk.

I’m proud of you for going out of your comfort zone.

I’m proud of you for taking a leap of faith.

You’ve been in one place your entire life, and I know to leave a place so familiar can be scary and overwhelming.

The things you’ll miss in California are probably running through your head. Things you may not have even done often, but you’re thinking about now that you’ll be away from it all. But just remember, for everything you already miss you’ll probably find two new things you love in the place that you’ll be calling home. And if for some reason you don’t—if this new place doesn’t steal your heart—know that you can always go back to your familiar place.

After all, that’s the best thing about adventures. We don’t know how great the adventure will be until we try it, and if it’s not what we expected, we can always try a new one.

So safe travels and cheers to your new adventure! I’m so proud of you.
